This Important Safety Information applies to GLP-1 medications including Semaglutide and Tirzepatide, which may be prescribed through ThinEra’s platform. Always consult your healthcare provider for medical advice.
Boxed Warning: Thyroid C-Cell Tumors
GLP-1 receptor agonists have caused thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents. It is unknown whether these medications cause medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in humans. Do not use if you or a family member has ever had MTC or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
Before You Start
Tell your provider if you have or have had:
- Pancreatitis
- Gallbladder disease
- Kidney problems
- Severe stomach or digestive problems (gastroparesis)
- Diabetic retinopathy
- History of allergic reactions to GLP-1 medications

- Gallbladder problems: Pain in the upper stomach, fever, yellowing of skin or eyes, clay-colored stools
- Kidney problems: Decreased urination, swelling in feet or ankles
- Severe allergic reactions: Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing; severe rash
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia): Dizziness, confusion, shakiness, sweating, fast heartbeat (especially when used with insulin or diabetes medications)
Common Side Effects
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, and decreased appetite. These often improve over time as your body adjusts. Tell your provider if side effects are bothersome or do not go away.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Tell your provider if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. These medications may harm an unborn baby. Women should discontinue GLP-1 medications at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy due to the medication’s long duration in the body.
Compounded Medications
Compounded versions of GLP-1 medications are prepared by licensed pharmacies. They contain the same active ingredients as FDA-approved brand-name drugs but may be customized for dosing. Compounding is regulated by state boards of pharmacy. Use only under the care of a licensed provider.

- These medications are not for emergency use. If you have a medical emergency, call 911.
- Do not share your medication with others.
- Store medication as directed (typically refrigerated until first use).
